Spring 2022 Cross-cultural Negotiation | User Experience | Behavior Skill Training (BST) Model | Mixed Reality | Hybrid Environment | Virtual Reality
As cross-cultural matters become more and more frequent, cross-cultural negotiation skills are increasingly in demand. At the same time, virtual reality as a new technology has proven its effectiveness in the training of social skills. Therefore, this research paper proposes a design framework for cross-cultural negotiation training while making full use of the advantages of virtual reality.
In this paper, I chose the Behavior Skill Training (BST) model as the learning model, carefully examined the four stages of construction, modeling, rehearsal and feedback and proposed six design assumptions. Based on assumptions, a prototype was designed for this study using the example of US-China bargaining negotiations.
VR-supported training provides space for trainees for discovery and addresses the issues of how information is received, organized, stored, and processed by human brains. It is vital to incorporated empathy into the design; therefore, participants requires the understanding of cross-cultural elements and emotional consideration.

UI Design
The powerful combination of immersive technology and behavioral science leverages VR is being used to deliver highly impactful training experiences in enhancing cross-cultural negotiation skills for commercial teams. The design needs to adapt players' flow experience that make challenging activities match players' abilities.
The Flow Theory also be considered in designing engaging gameplay experiences in trainees' comfort zone (Shernoff, 2014), which encourages trainees to embrace the correct number of challenges.
